I've been using BellSouth DSL in my area for some time now, not because it's the fastest choice but because it wasn't a particular competitor that acts as a monopoly in our area. But now, after five years, I'm getting fed up with them. My connection speed dropped about 33% two months ago, and it wasn't the fastest to beging with. No one from BellSouth technical support seems even remotely interested in getting to the bottom of it so this Monday I move to the competitor and get a Cable Modem.

When I first moved in I got both the Cable Modem and Bellsouth and ended up going with Bellsouth even though the connection speed was slightly slower. If the competitor (who also starts with the letter C and isn't Comcast) can't get me 5Mbs then I'll likely take the pain and just stick with BellSouth. Way to show'em! Seriously though, I got about 130-150Kbs through Bellsouth originally, and the competitor I got 155Kbs. Those aren't exactly stellar speeds and for cable modem, that's very slow. There's no way I'm going to pay the premium they charge (44.95) if they can't get 5Mbs down the pipe but that's what they claim their doing now so I guess we'll see what happens on Friday.
