So, the new XBOX has been revealed, and more will be available after E3. I don't know if anyone remembers all the XBOX hoopla discussed just after the original XBOX was released, but this pretty much seems to deliver on several concepts that a few people had nailed down from the start when certain technologies that Microsoft was developing mysteriously dropped off the face of the earth.
Essentially, the new XBOX appears to be a powerful Media Center that just happens to play games. At least, that's my take on it given the feature filled spec sheet. It's fairly descriptive on what the XBOX is, yet only hints at what it does.
We're talking full digital surround sound, universal remotes, movie and music lists, wireless controllers...and an upgradeable 20gig hard drive (can't keep all those pirated movies and music on 20gigs can you?). I wonder how proprietary that 20gig hard drive will be. If they are good to us, anyone will be able to go out and buy the hard drive they want and just plug it in. If they are smart, it will be proprietary hardware to which only a few vendors will be able to legitimately capitalize on. Well, I don't know...maybe that wouldn't be smart.
