Perhaps it's just my cynical nature, but doesn't declaring a nationality instead of a name sound a heartbeat shy of slight of hand racism. USA Today has delcared “German elected Pope”. I guess I shouldn't take it personally. It's just that “Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, of Germany, elected Pope” sounds a bit nicer, albiet a bit lengthy for the title of the Front Page. Still, they could take a title from one of their own online columns. “Ratzinger is elected pope”.
I guess it's just me.
